FOLLOWING the resignations from Holsworthy Town Council in recent months of councillors David Smith and James Parker, an election will take place on Thursday, December 22.

The election has been triggered by the fact that three candidates have come forward to fill the two vacancies.

They are: John Allen, a local businessman and a former district and town councillor and Mayor of Holsworthy, and chairman of the local MCTi and Ruby Country; Tom Cook, representing the Conservatives, who is a student of politics at Exeter University and has lived at Chilsworthy for the past ten years, and Jon Hutchings, also a local businessman, owner of the White Hart and active in various organisations in the town.

More recently, another vacancy has occurred on the council following the resignation of Cllr Pat Burtenshaw.

Depending on how many candidates wish to stand to fill this vacancy, a further election may follow in the new year, or if no candidate comes forward, the vacancy will be filled by co-option.
