TWO Lions have been celebrated after marking significant milestones in their voluntary service in the community.

Holsworthy and District Lions have celebrated the service of Brian Vanstone and Trevor Jones.

Both were presented with a commendation for their voluntary service in aid of local good causes, with Mr Vanstone reaching 30 years as a member of the lions while Trevor marked the tenth year of being involved in the group.

The Lions, which aim to put the ‘fun into fundraising’, currently have around 23 members who are all volunteers comprising ordinary people from a mix of backgrounds who use their individual skills, collectively, to help anyone less fortunate than themselves.

They are also a regular fixture at local events, most recently attending the popular Holsworthy Agricultural Show and being responsible for the well-received barbeque at the St Peter’s Fair. All of the fundraising from their volunteers benefits local causes, with the group also having a social element in their meetings, currently meeting twice a month on Thursdays.

Peter Brown, the chair of Holsworthy and District Lions, said: “Congratulations and thank you to Brian and Trevor on a combination of 40 years of charity service to Holsworthy and District Lions.

“Brian Vanstone who has reached a 30 year anniversary of being a club member and Trevor Jones who’s reached 10 years as a member.”
