IT HAS been a non stop summer of activities for the Army Cadets based at Holsworthy.

A county headquarters visit from the commandant of Devon Army Cadet Force (ACF), Colonel Steven Frost, saw two senior cadets receive their two Star progression badges. Cpl Tisha Bloor and LCpl William Girdler completed challenging modules including field craft shooting, first aid and expedition.

The cadets then enjoyed a bespoke four hour laser tag session held at Survival Combat Games where team work resilience and communication skills were put to the ultimate test in a fun format.

The Devon ACF annual camp was held in county this year and seven cadets traveled to Scraesdon Fort deploying immediately into a four day blank firing exercise.

The exercise built up to a final attack on the fort with cadet teams entering the enemy position via bridge and tunnels under close supervision from trained adult volunteer instructors.

Following the exercise the cadets moved on to Wyvern Barracks in Exeter for Adventurous Training including climbing mountain biking and sailing. Finally a full bore range day where 14 year old lance corporal, Eleanor Poole was awarded a shooting badge.

The ACF offers opportunities for young people to take part in The Duke of Edinburgh Award and during the summer break, six cadets completed their Bronze Award with an expedition in Devon.

Ellie Goodwin, a 17-year-old cadet, travelled to the Scottish island of Tiree where she undertook her week long Gold Residential section as part of an environmental clean up project.

Detachment Commander of the ACF, Lt Jim Harvey added: “This has been a fantastic summer for the cadets who have displayed commitment determination and endurance throughout. The detachment adult team is very proud of all their achievements.

“There’s so much on offer to young people of 12 years to 17 years old who take up the ACF as a hobby.

“Holsworthy ACF will be recruiting in the new year so please keep an eye on local press and social media for announcements or for more information view https://armycadets.com”
