Hatherleigh Nursing Home, in Okehampton, has recently celebrated Diwali with its residents.

It was a successful, warm, inclusive event that brought together residents, whom the home fondly refers to as ‘family members’, and the dedicated team to experience the richness of Indian cuisine and culture.

The celebration featured a vibrant and flavourful spread of traditional Indian dishes prepared by team members Gurjeet and Jisho. The menu included chicken biryani, crispy vegetable Manchurian, chilli cauliflower, vegetable fried rice, vermicelli pudding, and refreshing curd salad. This selection allowed everyone to dive into authentic flavours, celebrating the essence of Diwali through food and shared experiences.

The team at Hatherleigh Nursing Home celebrated Diwali in style, transforming their dining room with bursts of colour and light. The decorations created a memorable and immersive experience for team members celebrating their holiday, while inviting family members and other team members to enjoy and embrace the beautiful tradition together.

Team member Faye said: “It was great, our family members tucked into the dishes really well!”

The nursing home’s celebration of Diwali was not just about the food, but about embracing diversity, sharing traditions, and creating a true sense of community and inclusion within the home.
