A SUPERMARKET in Launceston was forced to close its doors yesterday (April 1) after its roof was damaged in strong winds.

It may have been April Fools Day but this was no joke and staff took the situation very seriously and were quick to act to ensure the safety of customers and staff members alike.

The Tesco Supermarket in the town had to turn customers away after the weather conditions left the store unsafe for shoppers and staff.

Those looking to do a post-work shop were asked to look elsewhere as roofing panels were left unsecured around 5pm on April 1.

Fire services were called to the incident, ensuring the area was secured.

An eye-witness told the Post: “Firefighters scaled the roof in an effort to secure a section which seems to have blown loose.

“The store was closed and members of the public ushered out by security.”

Despite the closure, the issue was soon fixed, with the panel re-attached, with the store reopened to the public.
