HM COASTGUARD has stood down the search for a man reported overdue from swimming in an area north of Bude .

The alarm was raised at around 2.25pm on August 4 to a location between Sandymouth and Northcott Mouth. Two HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopters were sent as well as Coastguard Rescue Teams from Boscastle, Bude and Hartland.

The service has confirmed that, pending any new information, searches have been stood down, though the missing individual has not been found.

As well as the coastguard, the RNLI's inshore lifeboat from Bude and all-weather lifeboats from Padstow and Appledore also assisted, as well as local lifeguards.

Devon and Cornwall Police was also alerted.
