DESPITE set-backs due to the ongoing pandemic, progress has been made in the development of the Delabole skate park project.
The organising committee is made up of local parents who are passionate about providing a skate park for the village with a view to keeping local children off their computers and back out in the fresh air, keeping fit, being sociable and staying out of trouble!
They are still hopeful with their aim of building a concrete skate park for the community and surrounding areas to use their BMX bikes, scooters and skateboards.
Claire Sleep, vice-chair of the Delabole Skate Park Committee, said: “We have been working away in the background for a few months again now and have some exciting news to share with you all.”
Claire explained that after a meeting with the Delabole Parish Council, it was confirmed the committee had the full support of the project and an agreement to pledge a maximum of £25,000 supporting the project in getting off the ground. The brand-new plans for the skate park will be available to see, with the hope that by reducing the cost it will aid in the funding applications being more successful.
Claire added: “We hope you agree the new plans still offer everything needed to make a great skate park. ?We will be submitting a planning application for these plans very soon.”
The project aims to provide a free-to-use skate park suitable for all children and wheeled sports and to be used by as many people as possible in the local community.
Claire wished to offer her thanks to members of the committee who have continued to raise funds for the skatepark. She said: “Thank you to Nickiey Hatch who has been running some raffles for us during the lockdowns via the Delabole Community page on Facebook, which has helped to keep our fundraising going.
“Thank you to anyone who donated raffle prizes and bought tickets.
“We would like to say a massive thank you to Elanor Hoskin, who has very kindly offered to help with any funding applications we make.
“She has a lot of experience in this area and has already offered us a lot of good advice and started to work on a new national lottery funding application.”
The committee are actively looking for new members to help with ideas and fundraising.
