Following its fantastic Ofsted grading of ‘Good’ in the autumn term, Coads Green Primary School has continued with a range of curriculum enrichment opportunities for its pupils.
Pupils in Years 1 and 2 have been visited by Anna Minnear from Cornwall Music Hub. She has taught the pupils to compose and record their own song ‘Cosmic Girl’ whilst learning to play the school’s keyboards. All Key Stage 2 pupils have been learning songs to perform in Songfest 2023. The Songfest events are held annually across Cornwall and give the children a fantastic opportunity to join with other schools in a massed choir with professional musicians. This follows performances recently held at the Charles Causley Trust’s Christmas celebration and carol singing in Tesco, Launceston.
Over the past year, pupils and staff have worked hard to earn their bronze award from Go Cornish. This has involved learning the Cornish language, visiting Cornish heritage sites and exploring the Cornish culture all around us. The school hopes to be rewarded for their efforts in a special event being held later in the spring.
Year 5 and 6 pupils visited the Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Museum in St Ives in January where they were met by sculptor, James Eddy. James encouraged them to think critically about the form of the sculptures and the space surrounding them. He returned to the school the following week where pupils created their own sculptures inspired by Barbara Hepworth and the Cornish landscape.
The rain and cold have not deterred the school’s keen cross-country runners who have already taken part in the Duchy and An Daras events and done the school proud with their effort and attitude.
Coad’s Green Primary School is described as a ‘happy and thriving’ school in its most recent Ofsted and welcomes prospective parents of children aged 3 to 11 to contact the office on 01566 782303 for places across the school.
