BUDE-Stratton Town Council has announced that it will be cutting ties with Bude Climate Partnership.

The decisions comes after an extraordinary council meeting held on January 16.

Following the meeting, a spokesperson from the council said: “After careful consideration, the council has had to make the difficult decision to step away from its role as lead partner for Bude Climate Partnership (BCP).

“Bude-Stratton Town Council has served as the lead partner for BCP since 2022. This initiative was designed to foster positive, community-led responses to climate change in the wider Bude area.”

Bude Climate Partnership was established in 2020, in an effort to create a group of local environmental organisations working together to develop positive community-led climate-change responses throughout the wider Bude area.

However, the town’s council has cited the its recent inability to resolve ‘ongoing challenges’ within the organisation as a reason for its departure from the project.

The spokesperson continued: “Over recent months, the council has worked closely with BCP to support its development and address a range of ongoing challenges. Despite the significant time and effort invested by council officers and members, there has been limited progress in resolving these issues.

“This is a disappointing situation for everyone who has worked tirelessly to advance the goals of BCP. The council remains committed to supporting the community in addressing climate challenges and exploring alternative avenues to deliver positive climate action locally.”
