A SCHOOL in Bude has issued an emergency closure for the second day in a row after its IT systems failed.
Budehaven Community School announced on November 15 that it would be issuing an emergency closure after its after an external IT failure left the site without internet, registration, and telephone services.
Despite the issues, the school explained in a statement to parents that it was hopeful that problems would be resolved ahead of its evening open day. However, this was not the case and the school has once again issued a closure notice to parents and carers.
In a message to pupil’s guardians, the school said: “We have been liaising with external technicians all day, who have just informed us that they have now identified the solutions they need to put in place to remedy the problems that have stopped our IT systems from working.
“The external IT failure, outside of the control of Budehaven Community School is continuing to cause a complete breakdown of our internet, registration abilities, and telephone services in school. Therefore for tomorrow, Friday, November 15, the school must remain closed to all pupils and sixth form students.
“Technicians will be working through the night, tomorrow and the weekend to fix the problems. We have liaised with Cornwall Council officials and Governors to collectively make the decision to close the school.Remote learning will continue tomorrow and staff will communicate this with all our young people on Class Charts.
“Thank you and well done for such a high level of positivity and engagement today. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this external issue, but safeguarding, as always is our number one priority. Closing school is always a last resort, but in this instance, it is the only option.”
