A NORTH Cornwall Rotary Club has celebrated its 75th anniversary with a special dinner.

The Rotary Club of Bude recently hosted a dinner at the Falcon Hotel to mark the 75th anniversary of the club's establishment. Many current and past members attended with personal guests and there were other guests from Rotary and associated organisations. Speakers included the President Martin Yeo, Rotary District Governor Tony Williams and Bill Kneebone, a long-standing contributor and now honorary member of the club.

A spokesperson from the club said: “The Rotary Club has been a prominent part of the local community in the town and its surrounding area for many years, promoting a wide programme of activities. In recent years these have included the Annual Duck Race each August that has raised thousands of pounds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, various competitions and projects involving local schools and a series of popular social events for local people particularly over the Christmas period. The club has also supported many worthy individual initiatives and activities organised by other groups in the town and presents annually a prestigious award to an individual who has provided commendable service to the local community.”

The club has expressed that it is now looking to the future and is keen to expand its membership to help take its plans forward.

The spokesperson continued: “We will welcome enquiries from anyone who would like to know more about its work and may wish to contribute, whether new to the area and looking to become involved in local activities or already living in the town but with ideas about engaging with the community. Whatever their interests or experience, the club would like to hear from them and Nigel Buse ([email protected]), will be glad to have an informal chat with the opportunity to attend a meeting and speak to existing members.”
