CREWS from Bude RNLI Lifeboat crew have issued a warning to beachgoers following a recent rescue.
On Sunday, June 9, Bude inshore lifeboat was launched on service to assist Bude Coastguard Rescue Team down on Upton beach just south of the town.
Upon arriving on scene Bude CRT had evacuated a casualty to the waters edge to hand over to the lifeboat crew for extraction from the beach.
A spokesperson from Bude RNLI explained: “Once secured, the crew and casualty returned to Summerleaze beach where the land ambulance was waiting at the station to take hand over of the patient, where the ambulance crew then carried out further checks and treatment.”
However, following the incident, the crew are now reminding people how to stay safe at the beach.
A spokesperson continued: “With the summer season approaching and more people starting to explore our beautiful coastline.
“Here’s a few safety points to remember:
- Let someone know WHERE you are heading, along with WHEN you will be expected back.
- Always carry a means of calling for HELP! This could be a mobile phone or VHF radio.
- Know the tide times, tidal cut offs happen very quickly especially on spring tides.
- Carry water, snacks and an extra layer.
- Install ‘what 3 words’ app which is used by all emergency services for exact locations.”
