BUDE’s RNLI Lifeboat crew have issued a plea for beachgoers to stick to lifeguarded beaches after saving three people from dangerous rip currents.
On Saturday, August 3 at 2.15pm, Bude’s inshore lifeboat was tasked to Duckpool beach, three miles north of Bude, to assist RNLI lifeguards from Sandymouth beach who immediately tasked by Falmouth of reports three people in the water and in difficulty getting taken out to sea in a rip current.
Sandymouth’s lifeguards proceeded on foot with Summerleaze lifeguards launching their rescue water craft (RWC) to support also.
Upon arriving on scene the three casualties had made it back to shore where the lifeguard met with them and passed them onto the coastguard rescue team who conducted a medical assessment.
Once all were happy that no one else was in the water they returned to station.
Following the incident, Bude’s crew has issued a plea to swimmers to use beaches which are watched over by lifeguards.
A Bude RNLI spokesperson said: “Please visit our lifeguarded beaches, Bude’s RNLI lifeguards are on duty every day 10am - 6pm and provide safe areas/advice to swim and enjoy the water, we understand many like to visit quieter beaches however our coastline has severe rip currents all the way along this year.”
