A community hockey club has set up a Crowdfunder to help the team remain in the town.
Bude Hockey Club announced this week it will have to move to Holsworthy over the winter due to further light outages making things dangerous for them.
“The committee have had to take the difficult decision to move training venues after half term.
“The combination of further light outage and the clocks going back would make it too dangerous to continue at Bude. As of October 30, training will be at Holsworthy MUGA from 8pm to 9.30pm.”
However, a Crowdfunder has been set up in order to help the club remain in Bude with the purchase of battery-powered lighting.
A spokesperson said: “Bude Hockey Club is a longstanding friendly and successful club based in North Cornwall, which welcome players of any age or ability.
“For many years, training has taken place at Bude Community Leisure Centre, but only five of 20 lights are working at the facility and it is just too dark to train effectively.
“We have a junior section of around 60 under 16s and two league sides which play during the day at weekends so around a hundred plus active members.
“We have seen year on year increases in cost, yet no maintenance completed to the site at all.
“The option to purchase some battery powered lighting to enable us to keep training in Bude is one temporary solution.
“The club has offered its help for the last two years since we came out of lockdowns in many formats to try and get the lights fixed, even contacting the local and county council to try and solves the issue.
“We are now at a point where it’s just too bad to do nothing. We have provisionally moved but any solution to be back in Bude will save members time and money and bring hockey training back to Bude.
“Modern battery powered lighting will help but we really need some support with the costs.”
