THE Brandis Corner Wildlife Group repeated its free bird nestbox building event held a year ago, funded by Torridge District Council under its Councillor Grants Scheme, through District Cllr Gaye Tabor on Friday, October 29.
Held at the same venue again, Alpaca Park near Halwill Junction, the group was able to offer insect boxes this year as well as bird nestboxes and was very pleased with the public's response.
A total of 29 adults and 35 children together with nine group helpers, constructed 28 bird and 21 insect boxes.
Group leader, June Green, said of the event: "We had another very absorbing day and were greatly encouraged by the response from adults and children alike. It is so good for children to get involved with practical projects and realise they can directly contribute to wildlife conservation in our local area.
"I am very pleased with the way our group has progressed over the last 12 months — we now number around 70 and our various meetings and field trips covering Owls, Bats, Culm habitat, pondlife and Beavers have been well supported and received."
The group is grateful to the Alpaca Park for again hosting the event and to Waitrose of Holsworthy for kindly donating bags to hold the various boxes.
