A MAJOR road between Camelford and Launceston is set to be closed for a number of hours after a lorry collided with a tree.

Despite significant damage to the lorry, the driver escaped relatively unscathed after the incident, which occurred near Hallworthy.

Emergency services were called to reports of a lorry colliding with a tree on the A395 at Hallworthy, with the tree reported to have fallen after the incident, leaving a significant amount of debris on the road.

Devon and Cornwall Police said that the road was likely to be closed for a number of hours.

Traffic reporting site Inrix said: “A395 - Both ways near Hallworthy in Cornwall: A395 both ways closed, delays due to accident, a lorry and a tree involved and fuel spillage from the Egloskerry turn off to The Wilsey Down.”

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “One appliance from Launceston Community Fire Station was mobilised to a single vehicle RTC.

“A HGV collided with a tree causing significant damage and extensive debris on the road.

“As it stands the A395 is closed in both directions from the B3262 Otterham turn off for Egloskerry to Hallworthy.

“Please find an alternative route.

“Luckily the driver walked away with minor injuries.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 11.35am on Thursday 31 October following reports of a lorry colliding with a tree on the A395 near Davidstow.

"One driver was reported have been trapped but has since managed to get out of the vehicle. He is not thought to be injured.

"A road closure has been put in place and is likely to remain for some time while clean-up work takes place."
