A LARGE fire at a residential property in Boscastle was attended by over 70 fire crews from eight stations.
Officers from Bude, Bodmin, Padstow, St Austell, Delabole, Perranporth, Lostwithiel and Liskeard community fire stations, accompanied by two wholetime officers attended reports of a residential fire on Fore Street, at 12:42pm on Sunday, March 30.
The initial response involved six appliances, two officers, one command unit and one operational support vehicle before a later update from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the extent of the fire and its response from fire crews.
Starting on the ground floor, the fire spread quickly through the property, eventually reaching the roof of the property, with hose reel jets and breathing apparatus used by the fire crews as they bid to contain the blaze.
Other emergency services were in support at the scene, with paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service and officers from Devon and Cornwall Police also in attendance at the scene.
The fire was later confirmed as extinguished with Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service confirming that a fire investigation into the causes of the incident being launched in its aftermath.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “In total, over 70 firefighters from Bude, Bodmin, Padstow, St Austell, Delabole, Perranporth, Lostwithiel and Liskeard attended along with two whole time officers for support and additional expertise.
“The fire started on the ground floor and spread quickly to the roof of the property. Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
“Firefighters were supported on scene with assistance from South Western Ambulance Service and Devon and Cornwall Police. The fire is now confirmed out and a fire investigation is taking place this morning (March 31).”
