HOLSWORTHY will aim for a second Torridge Cup title in three years later when they take on host club Torrington (7.30pm).

Torrington’s annual May Day celebrations means a huge crowd – likely to be well over 500 – will be in attendance to watch the two clubs who were league rivals in SWPL Premier East until Holsworthy’s switch into the west division for the 2023/24 season.

The Magpies have had a battling run through to the final.

They started off with a 2-1 victory over neighbours Bude Town before edging five goal thrillers against Shamwickshire Rovers and North Molton.

Torrington’s route has seen them involved in plenty of drama as well.

They beat North Devon League Premier Division side Park United on penalties after a 2-2 draw before edging past town rivals Torridgeside 8-7 on spot-kicks following a goalless encounter.

The semi-final saw them beat North Devon League Premier Division leaders Boca Seniors 3-1, meaning both teams have had to work extremely hard to reach the final.

Holsworthy will hope for a repeat of their victory two years ago rather than last season’s surprise defeat to Appledore, and are set to be cheered on by a large crowd travelling up the A388.
